·      Dawn of man

o   Clips of nature and geographical landscapes without any human life present 

o   Two opposing groups of apes come into contact and scream at each other until the original group holds their ground 

o   When the apes run out they see a completely symmetrical rectangle box? 

§  As the apes began to touch the box the singing gets louder 

o   One ape finds the bones of a larger animal and uses a bone to start smashing the ground and the skeleton of the animal

§  Direct result=technology 

o   The apes with the “technology” are standing on two feet unlike the other group

o   Like before another group of apes comes to threaten but unlike last time it is not just a verbal fight, they use the technology/bones to physically hurt the other group

o   The ape throws the bone in the air and it transitions into some sort of space technology 

·      Jupiter Mission

o   Now you see the sun rising above the moon while the machine circles around it 

o   As the technology moves through space the music is very light and elegant and joyous-the waltz 

§  The large machine and the plane are in choreography 

o   Depicts a normal plane but instead it is flying to the moon 

§  There is only one passenger in the plane 

§  The stewardess is wearing Velcro shoes to keep her on the ground due to gravity 

§  Predicted individual screens for everyone in the plane 

o   The airport is very small and completely empty 

o   The airport is also very minimalistic- floors and walls all white with red abstract furniture 

o   Uses face and voice recognition to allow people in instead of having people working customs 

o   Picture phone accessible everywhere similar to what we have on our phones today-facetime

o   All of the food is in juice boxes and comes all perfectly packaged out of a machine

o   The whole spaceship is like a big ball 

o   There is a 10 point instructions for using the zero gravity toilet 

o   The camera has a handle and one long lens sort of like one binocular 

o   There is two women in the meeting but no people of color 

o   Gyorgi ligetti produced much of the music for the movie 

o   There is a movie set engraved on the moon

§  Some people believed the moon landing is a conspiracy theory 

o   Hibernation chambers 

§  They were put into hibernation before departure to preserve them to the fullest

o   HAL 9000 computer reproduce/ mimic human brain

§  The computer says it is incapable of error and foolproof

·      Foreshadowing something will go wrong with the computer 

·      Refers to itself as conscious 

o   Hal says she is nervous about the mission and sees something odd about the mission

§  Refers to itself as being silly 

o   Hal advises to let the system fail because he cannot track the issue (he made a mistake) 

§  Blames it on human error 

o   The two men start fearing Hal they go into the pod to hide from him and speak 

§  They are planning on how to disconnect him 

§  Hal is reading their lips 

o   The screen indicates a computer malfunction 

§  Life functions critical

o   Hal is the most famous first killing machine in history 

§  Symbolized by the glowing red “eye”

o   Hal says he thinks he is entitled to an answer for the question he asked 

o   A rectangle box like the one seen in the beginning is now floating in space 

o   Movie fully circles from dawn of man to dusk

§  He is viewing all stages of his life left until its him on his death bed 

§  The rectangular box appears and he turns into a fetus
